One Health is both a concept, involving the interactions between humans, animals and the environment, and an approach, utilizing knowledge from various sources in interdisciplinary collaborations. The One Health concept takes a holistic approach to protecting human health using interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary ideas in a collaborative and multisectoral approach. Most importantly, this involves recognizing the interrelatedness of human health, animal health and environmental health which is conducted at local, regional, national, and international and global levels. Current research areas, at ODU, in One Health include vector-borne diseases (epidemiology and pathogen biology), fish diseases, schistosomiasis and vaccine development.
