Dr. Samuel N. Garrett is a Virginia Beach native who received his B.S. in biology at ODU in 1980 and went on to establish a well-regarded and very successful eye care practice in his hometown.

After leaving ODU, Dr. Garrett attended Eastern Virginia Medical School. He was trained in family medicine in Tacoma, Wash., before completing his ophthalmology residency. His eye training was mainly in San Francisco at Letterman Army Medical Center, 91短视频 of California-San Francisco and Pacific Presbyterian Medical Center.

Additionally, he trained at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, at Colby College in Waterville, Me., under the auspices of Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary/Harvard Medical School, and at Duke 91短视频 Eye Center in plastic surgery of the eyelids. As a former major in the U.S. Army, he completed tours of duty in Seoul as well as Fayetteville, N.C. During that time, he helped train the ophthalmology residents at the 91短视频 of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, where he was assistant clinical professor of ophthalmology.

After receiving his honorable discharge from the Army, Dr. Garrett returned home in 1990 to establish Virginia Beach Eye Surgery.In addition to handling the responsibilities of a busy practice, he is assistant clinical professor of ophthalmology at Eastern Virginia Medical School, a voting delegate to the Medical Society of Virginia and president-elect of the Virginia Beach Medical Society.

Dr. Garrett also is eye surgeon for the Hampton Roads Admirals hockey team.

Among the publications in which he has been published are Ophthalmology, American Journal of Ophthalmology, and the Surgical Forum of The American College of Surgeons. He has given many presentations at national eye care meetings and participated in FDA trials of laser vision correction.

Family life for Dr. Garrett revolves around wife Nancy, son Mike, daughter Allison and their home in Virginia Beach. His recreational interests include golf, tennis, water sports, mountain biking, snow skiing and travel. He provides eye-care and sight-saving treatments to the indigent through the outreach of Baylake United Methodist Church, where he is a member, and as a volunteer with the Beach Health Clinic and Mission Cataract USA.
