Welcome to the College of Sciences!
In the College of Sciences, our advisors are here to help you make your academic journey at ODU an unforgettable experience that will launch you into the world, resilient and ready to make your mark.
We believe advising is not just about removing holds and helping students decide which courses to take. We work to empower students to make their own decisions, know their options, become independent learners, discover their talents and weaknesses, and learn how to overcome academic challenges. Allow us to help you make the most out of your college experience, both inside and outside of the classroom.
We've seen that a successful college student is one who stays connected to their family as well as the campus community, which is why we highly recommend that you get to know your advisors and professors on a one-onÂ-one basis.

Meet Your Advisors
Our advising team is here to listen to each of our students with an open mind and treat you as a unique individual. We believe students should never feel rushed or frustrated while meeting with an advisor.
Advising Information
All entering freshman are required to attend Freshman Group Advising before scheduling an individual appointment with their advisor.
All incoming transfer students are required to attend Monarch Orientation or a Transfer Advising Session, for advising, in order to have their advising hold removed before registering for courses. Students who are eligible to attend the Transfer Advising Session are those who transfer in 24+ earned credit hours.
During Orientation/Transfer Advising Session, students will have an opportunity to meet with an advisor to create a schedule with relevant coursework for their degree program. It is recommended that students attend the earliest session possible to ensure a smooth class registration process. Summer/Fall admits should plan on attending in early-mid May if possible. Spring admits should plan on attending Orientation in December.Â
Register for Monarch OrientationÌý´Ç°ùÌý.
(30-78 credits)
Sophomores and juniors in good academic standing are not required to meet with an advisor. However, all students should consider meeting with their academic advisor to evaluate their progress in the program and discuss future academic plans.
(78+ credits)
Students with over 78 credits are required to attend an Upperclassman Advising Session. Upperclassman Advising Sessions are held each semester during activity hour and provide students with an opportunity to have their graduation requirements reviewed by an advisor. Session topics will include a brief curriculum review, discussion of minors/Option D, upcoming deadlines, graduation review and much more!
All students experiencing academic difficulty (GPA 2.0 or lower) are required to meet with an academic advisor.
The Pre-Health Advisory Committee (PHAC) assists students who plan to apply to a postgraduate medical, dental, pharmacy, physician assistant, optometry, or veterinary program.Â
