Congratulations to all of our students, faculty, and staff on the conclusion of another successful academic year! Reflecting on the year, we should all be proud of what we accomplished together and excited about the future integration between Old Dominion 91¶ÌÊÓƵ (ODU) and Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS). As highlighted in the last update distributed in March, there are several benefits both institutions and our shared communities can expect as a result of the integration, and there is much to look forward to!
Last week, EVMS President, Provost, and Dean Alfred Abuhamad, M.D. hosted a Town Hall focused on benefits to help EVMS employees understand what to expect post-integration. While there is excitement about bringing our institutions together, it is also important to recognize and respect how our future colleagues will navigate this transition. This is a tremendous opportunity for our community to demonstrate care and support for our future colleagues.
As we look ahead, the next major integration milestone is the approval of the state budget. We are confident that legislators will pass the budget, which will allow us to move forward with a January 1, 2024 integration. The earliest we expect a budget decision to be announced would be in late June.
Finally, to , thank you for your dedication to this important work. Comprised of ODU and EVMS colleagues, these individuals are organized into various groups. As you can imagine, the efforts of these teams are robust and ongoing. They are an integral part of the integration's success, so please join me in thanking them for their continued contributions.
I look forward to sharing more details in the months ahead. Together, our potential is boundless, and our impact is limitless as we envision a brighter future where ODU and EVMSare one powerful force in the community and across the Commonwealth!
