The Old Dominion 91短视频 Libraries are pleased to offer the inaugural F. Ludwig Diehn Music Scholars in Residency program to further research and engagement using the Libraries music special collections. We encourage applicants to think creatively about new uses for the music special collections. Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate the greatest potential for publication and innovative use of the collections. Residents will be required to write a brief overview of their research experience and will also be asked to present a presentation or lecture on their research.
The F. Ludwig Diehn Composers Room is named for renowned composer F. Ludwig Diehn, who donated original manuscripts of his compositions to be housed with those of other eminent composers in the Diehn Composers Room. The music special collections primarily contain personal papers and working materials of composers, conductors, music producers, and arts organizations including scores, recordings, notes, letters, and performance information. The collections are intended to provide study materials on the individual/organization, the work, the creative process of composition, and other questions and interests related to music. ELIGIBILITY: The award is open to those currently pursuing or having completed graduate studies at the Master's or doctoral level in an applicable discipline.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS: Applications for the F. Ludwig Diehn Music Special Collections Researcher in Residence must be received by October 12, 2018. Applications must include:
- Cover letter
- Curriculum vitae
- Outline of research topic and special collections to be used (two pages maximum)
- Brief budget for travel, living, and research expenses
- Dates to be spent in residence
- Two letters of recommendation from faculty or other scholars familiar with the research project.
Application materials, including letters of recommendation, can be submitted in PDF format by email to jhritchi@odu.edu. Letters of recommendation in PDF format also can be sent by email, either by the person writing them or by the applicant.
REVIEW PROCESS AND NOTIFICATION: A committee will evaluate the research proposals, and applicants will be notified of its decision by email.
AWARD: $8,000 per residency term. Residency awards are intended to defray the costs of conducting research and applicants must submit a budget detailing their projected expenses as part of the application process. Residents will be required to conduct research in residence at ODU for a minimum of 4 weeks and not more than 8 weeks.
