The Color of Freedom Exhibition

SPRING 2022
ODU Libraries hosted this program on March 3rd which showcased presentations by MAE 111 students on how gender impacts engineering design and careers. Dr. Annette Finley-Croswhite provided the keynote address on Women in STEM: Past, Present, Future.
For the 2022 Undergraduate Research Symposium, the Libraries hosted posters and artwork in the Learning Commons on Saturday, March 19 from 9am-5pm. The full proceedings, including artwork, are available in .
From March 21-25, ODU Libraries partnered with the Gordon Art Galleries, the 91短视频 Theatre, and faculty members to host a weeklong event designed to showcase art, a lecture series, digital exhibits, dance and music performances, and a zine-making workshop.
Research & Writing Rescue
ODU Libraries and the Writing Center teamed up to provide Research & Writing Rescue sessions on March 28 & 29 to assist students with their papers.

You Are Here! Themester 2021
Fall 2021 Themester Kickoff Event - ODU Libraries encouraged student Monarchs to join the You Are Here! Themester Kickoff on September 30 from 1pm to 3pm!! They learned more about the events planned for Fall 2021, which were designed to serve as a bridge between academic exploration and the social issues surrounding us today.
- featuring print books, e-books, and media on issues related to arts and social justice. As part of the Fall 2021 Themester, the Libraries purchased additional books and media on topics related to arts and social justice to add to the display. Many of these materials were on display in the Perry Library and Art Library.
Food, Shelter, Water; an Arts-Based Research Investigation - A display of student art created to represent issues of social justice. Students of Dr. Natalia Pilato's ARTS 495 course dedicated their time and effort to the Fall 2021 Themester project, while collaborating with the Libraries and our available resources. The artwork was available to view in Perry Library's Learning Commons.
"Poems From the Holocaust" Revisited
A virtual evening of remembrance on October 20 from 7pm to 9pm. Attendees explored a musical composition melding both art and social justice and urging listeners to never forget the tragedy of the Holocaust's youngest victims. Composer Allan Blank based his composition upon children's poetry found at the Jewish concentration camp of Terezin after its liberation in 1945. Panelists shared their perspectives and expertise on the composition and this significant time in history!
International Education Week: On November 18, panelists from across campus participated in a program "Growing Up to Adulthood: The Sociocultural Impact of Comic Books Around the World" to share their insights on the backstory of varied content, situations, page length, and design found in comic books on a global scale.
FAll Open House: ODU Libraries hosted an Open House on September 7th where ODU students explored our resources and services and learned about what's beyond the books. They met librarians and Libraries' partners and participated in a scavenger hunt.

Arts in the Libraries Virtual Festival
A week of virtual events centering on art collections from the Libraries and associate repositories to educate, celebrate, and inspire, while connecting the Monarch community to the Libraries, the arts, and the opportunity for lifelong scholarship.

Conversations with the Monarch Community
A series of hour-long events highlighting the expertise and professional experiences of faculty, administration, and staff, along with student perspectives regarding specific and/or timely issues:
- Incorporating discussions of race relations, diversity, inclusion, and social activism into courses and assignments
- Student wellness during COVID-19, focusing on mental health
- Black History Month and the Norfolk 17
- Transitioning from academic to professional environments during the COVID-19 pandemic
and are available for some of the "Conversations."
Partnering in Sustainable Scholarship: A Faculty Forum
A forum discussing preparations for negotiating a new 91短视频 contract with Elsevier beginning in 2022, welcoming faculty feedback to improve journal title selection, and providing information on options for accessing content needed for research. Poetry Slam 2021: Centering Resiliency, Hope, Healing, and Self-Care
Our Annual Poetry Slam is held during National Library Week in April, and the 2021 event was held virtually on April 13. The Libraries encourage students in all disciplines to share their creativity and compete for monetary prizes. More information about this year's event is at
