Additional Information
This linked bachelor's/master's degree program is designed to provide an opportunity for exceptionally qualified Cybersecurity undergraduate students to obtain both a bachelor's and a master's degree in Cybersecurity. Subject to the approval of the undergraduate and graduate program directors, a student enrolled in a linked program can count up to twelve credit hours of coursework towards both the undergraduate and the graduate degrees.Ìý
Students in linked programs must earn a minimum of 150 credit hours (120 discrete credit hours for the undergraduate degree and 30 discrete credit hours for the graduate degree). Continuance in a linked bachelor's/master's program requires maintenance of a GPA of 3.00 or higher overall and in the major. Students who are matriculated in an undergraduate major in the School of Cybersecurity with a GPA of at least 3.00 overall and 3.00 in the major are eligible to apply for admission to a linked bachelor's/master's program.
Ìý
To be admitted to the linked program, students must have completed at least 60 undergraduate credit hours with at least 24 credit hours from ODU and a 3.0 Overall GPA. Transfer students who desire to be admitted to a linked program at the time they join an undergraduate major at Old Dominion 91¶ÌÊÓƵ are eligible to apply if their overall GPA at their previous institution is 3.25 or higher.Ìý
Once students have been awarded their bachelor's degree and fulfilled all regular admission requirements for the MS in Cybersecurity, they will be officially admitted into the MS program.
Ìý
Students in the program will fulfill all normal admission and curricular requirements for both a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity and an MS in Cybersecurity with the following exceptions:
- Students in the program may count up to 12 hours of graduate courses, at the 500 level, excluding independent study, taken as an undergraduate toward both the bachelor's and master's degrees in Cybersecurity.
- Students in the program may substitute cybersecurity graduate courses for undergraduate courses according to the following schema. All students must complete an undergraduate writing intensive course in the major.
Students may substitute 500-level courses for the upper-level CYSE electives in the undergraduate program so long as they have the prerequisites for those courses. - Students will not receive credit for both the 400 and 500-level versions of the same course.
- Students in the program may make a written petition for other substitutions to the graduate program director, who will consider them in consultation with the chief departmental advisor and the instructor(s) of the courses involved.
- To maximize the accelerated benefit, one or more of the following required courses should be selected: CYSE 516, CYSE 519, CYSE 520, CYSE 526, CS 564, CS 565 CS 567
- Students in the program may substitute cybersecurity graduate courses for undergraduate courses according to the following schema. All students must complete an undergraduate writing intensive course in the major.
Please Note:
- Following 91¶ÌÊÓƵ policy, up to 21 hours of graduate courses taken as an undergraduate may be counted toward the bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity. However, only 12 hours of graduate courses taken as an undergraduate may also be counted toward the MS degree in Cybersecurity. This will subsequently limit students' scheduling flexibility.
- Like students in the regular MS in Cybersecurity program, students in the linked BSCYSE/MS Cybersecurity degree may count no more than 12 hours at the 500 level toward their MS degree. Students should consider the impact of taking all 12 of those 500-level credits as an undergraduate, as doing so may limit their scheduling flexibility subsequently.
