Dr. Joanna K. Garner, Research Professor and Executive Director of The Center for Educational Partnerships (TCEP) at Old Dominion 91¶ÌÊÓƵ, participated in a thought-provoking discussion on motivation for innovation at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History. Presented by the Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and Innovation, the March 27, 2024, Innovative Lives Series event featured Shawn Springs, former NFL player and CEO/Founder of Windpact, a Software and Technology company.

Springs combined a lifelong passion for sports with his personal experience of surviving a serious car crash to develop Crash Cloud technology—an advanced impact-absorption system now used across sports, the military, construction, and automotive industries. This engaging dialogue reveals how intersecting themes of education, technology, and real-world problem-solving can contribute to identifying as an inventor. Learn more by watching the recording .
