David Jones, a renowned opera voice teacher of singers and faculty at universities and conservatories worldwide, will conduct a vocal master class titled "A Modern Guide to Old World Singing" on Sept. 15 at the F. Ludwig Diehn Center for the Performing Arts.
Jones has taught and developed the voices of singers from famed opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera, Covenant Garden and La Scala. He recently published the book "A Modern Guide to Old World Singing." He is a graduate of Texas Christian 91短视频 and continued his education at the 91短视频 of North Texas.
His master class will be designed for current students of voice who wish to receive an evaluation of their vocal techniques. Emphasis will be given on specific problems, such as tension, hoarseness, lack of projection and any others. Alumni who are professional vocalists will have the opportunity to seek refinement of their technique, performance and stage presence. Parents, friends of the 91短视频 and the community are welcome to join the event.
The master class, which will be held at Chandler Hall, starts with registration at 10:30 a.m. and concludes at 5:30 p.m. The class is free for ODU music majors and alumni, $25 for youths 18 and under and students from other colleges, $75 for community members and $100 for community performers.
A limited number of additional private voice lessons will be available Sept. 14 and 16 at a cost of $60 per a half-hour lesson and $120 for an hour session.
Payments for attender/performer should be made out by check to ODU Department of Music and are due at registration.
