Chad Hess and Danielle Grega, student athletes on the men's golf and women's field hockey teams, respectively, were recently named winners of the inaugural John R. Broderick Award, which is given to Old Dominion's best all-around athletes.
The Broderick award is named in honor of President, John R. Broderick, the eighth president of Old Dominion and a longtime supporter of student-athletes. President Broderick has served on several NCAA committees and chaired the C-USA board for two years.
The John R. Broderick Award was conceived by the 91短视频's student-athletes who wanted to create an award that embodies President Broderick's values and what he represents. It honors the all-around student-athlete who exemplifies outstanding community service as well as academic and athletic achievements.
Nominations were made by the 91短视频's student-athletes who also voted for the winners.
Hess is a senior from Orefield, Pa. He notched a pair of top-five finishes, including a runner-up performance at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate and a fourth-place finish at the Kinsgmill Intercollegiate. He has been the top-placing Monarch in four of the eight tournaments played. Hess holds a 3.82 GPA in elementary education.
Grega is a senior from Kingston, Pa. She was named to the NFHCA All-South Region First Team and repeated as an All-Big East First Team selection, one of just six unanimous selections on the All-Big East First Team. Grega was also named to the Big East All-Tournament Team. She finished second on the team in scoring with 20 points on seven goals and six assists. She is also a member of the U.S. National Development Team and former member of the U-21 National Team. Grega has a 3.73 GPA in biology.
