Old Dominion 91短视频's Student National Environmental Health Association (SNEHA) members recently participated in the 30thAnnual Clean the Bay Day. The group recently collected more than 15 large bags of trash and debris from the beach and dunes, near American Legion Post 35 on Willoughby Spit in Norfolk. For their efforts, the group received a certificate of appreciation.
Each year, on the first Saturday of June, thousands of Virginians descend on the rivers, streams, and beaches of the Chesapeake Bay to rid the watershed of harmful litter and debris. Clean the Bay Day has become a Virginian tradition and an annual opportunity for families, military installations, businesses, clubs, civic or church groups to give back to local waterways.
This year, Gov. Ralph Northam was joined by Secretary of Natural Resources Matt Strickler, Dept. of Conservation and Recreation Director Clyde Christman and Sen. Lynwood Lewis, and Chesapeake Bay Foundation's Harry Lester and Will Baker for a big cleanup in Cape Charles.
Clean the Bay Day is one of the many community services opportunities that SNEHA undertakes every year. The group is always looking for more members. If you're interested in joining, contact ODU's chapter President Suzy Weigel at sweig002@odu.edu.
