The mission of the Department of Military Science and Leadership is to commission the future officer leadership of the U.S. Army. The Old Dominion 91¶ÌÊÓƵ Army ROTC program consists of structured study in the field of military science with the primary objective of developing leaders who will serve as commissioned officers in the U.S. Army Active and Reserve components. Students develop maturity, responsibility, and dependability while earning the Gold Bar of an Army Second Lieutenant.

Infantry
Operate weapons and equipment in ground combat operations. Duties include operating and maintaining weapons, such as rifles, machine guns, mortars, and hand grenades; locating, constructing, and camouflaging infantry positions and equipment; evaluating terrain and recording topographical information; operating and maintaining field communications equipment; assessing need for and directing supporting fire; placing explosives and performing minesweeping activities on land; and participating in basic reconnaissance operations.

Command and Control Center Officers
Manage the operation of communications, detection, and weapons systems essential for controlling air, ground, and naval operations. Duties include managing critical communication links between air, naval, and ground forces; formulating and implementing emergency plans for natural and wartime disasters; coordinating emergency response teams and agencies; evaluating command center information and need for high-level military and government reporting; managing the operation of surveillance and detection systems; providing technical information and advice on capabilities and operational readiness; and directing operation of weapons targeting, firing, and launch computer systems.
Requirements

Army ROTC offers two different programs to all qualified university students. The traditional four-year program gives students the opportunity to take AROTC courses in each of their four years of college.

The two-year program is available for any students who did not take ROTC during their first two years of college.

There is no service obligation until students reach their junior year of college.Â

Estimated rates for the 2024-25 academic year. Rates are subject to change. Anyone that is not a current Virginia resident will be charged non-resident rates. That includes international students.

Scholarships
Students may compete for four-, three, and two-year scholarships that pay full tuition and gradually increasing stipend and book allowance annually. Nursing scholarships are plentiful for qualified applicants.
